Why consider BCC Invest
For a foreigner who wants a reassuring, bank-grade custodian for Kazakhstan-listed equities, BCC Invest is the most credible local option: it’s the brokerage arm of Bank CenterCredit, Kazakhstan’s third-largest bank (and the one that absorbed Sberbank’s Kazakhstan business), and it offers an English-language interface — rare here.
The catch: the IIN
BCC requires a Kazakhstan IIN (Individual Identification Number — the national tax/ID number). You can get one free in Kazakhstan, at a Kazakh consulate abroad, or via the e-residency programme for ~USD 499/year. It’s a real but surmountable hurdle — far easier than the identity-number barriers in Nigeria or South Africa. If you’d rather skip the IIN entirely, the AIFC-licensed brokers (Teniz Capital, SkyBridge Invest) don’t require one.
My take
The best local choice if you’re willing to get an IIN. If you only want the headline names — Halyk and Kaspi — note they trade in London/New York and need no Kazakh account at all.
