Status: Researched · 2 July 2026 — from TCBS’s own foreign-investor onboarding and help pages; not personally tested.
What it is
TCBS — Techcom Securities, Techcombank’s brokerage arm — is one of Vietnam’s largest retail brokers, and the reason it’s profiled here is specific: it is the local securities company that publishes a foreign-non-resident onboarding flow. Since no mainstream global broker offers Vietnam retail access (see the Vietnam page — Circular 08/2026’s global-broker routing doesn’t change that for retail), a local broker is the way in, and TCBS is the one that documents how a foreigner abroad does it.
Who can open an account
Per TCBS’s own pages, a foreign individual not residing in Vietnam can open an account by:
- Registering online with passport details;
- Couriering the physical documents to TCBS within 10 days of registration (the postmark counts — miss it and the application is cancelled);
- Meeting the document rules: notarisations/certifications no older than one year, and any non-English documents translated into English by a licensed Vietnamese translation organisation.
That covers the brokerage account. Vietnam’s other prerequisites still apply — the Securities Trading Code (STC), which the broker can handle during onboarding, and the VND indirect investment account (IICA) at a licensed bank.
The unresolved question is the IICA. Techcombank (TCBS’s parent) markets “the first online IICA in Vietnam,” which suggests the whole chain can be done remotely — but reports differ on whether the bank leg really completes without an in-person visit. Until someone verifies it end-to-end, treat “no Vietnam visit required” as claimed, not confirmed, and put the question to both TCBS and Techcombank in writing before planning around it.
What it reaches
Vietnam only: HOSE and HNX equities, plus bonds and funds, on the TCInvest platform. For anything outside Vietnam you’d use a different broker — this is the Vietnam specialist, not a multi-market account.
Use it / skip it
Use it if you want direct Vietnamese stocks — the small-caps and local names that the London funds don’t concentrate in — and you’re prepared for real onboarding paperwork. Skip it if diversified Vietnam beta is enough: the London-listed funds VOF and VEIL and Nasdaq-listed VinFast (VFS) need no local account at all (see the guide).
Verdict
The best-documented door into Vietnam for a foreign individual: a published remote flow, a modern platform, and a bank parent marketing an online IICA. The registry’s rating stays researched until the no-visit claim survives contact with a real onboarding — if you complete one remotely (or hit a wall), that’s exactly the kind of reader report this site runs on.
