What it is
Maybank Securities, historically Maybank Kim Eng, is Maybank’s brokerage platform across Southeast Asia. For the directory, it matters as one of the better pan-Asian broker options for investors comfortable with an older bank-broker workflow.
The main reason to care: Maybank is one of the few broker groups repeatedly associated with broad ASEAN access, including Vietnam.
Market access
Its market access breaks down roughly as:
- Online: Hong Kong, Singapore, Thailand, Malaysia.
- Phone: Japan, Korea, Taiwan, Vietnam, Indonesia, Philippines.
- No visible route in that table: China B-shares and India. For India that is structural, not a Maybank gap — India does not allow foreign retail individuals to open trading accounts at all (see the India page); Maybank’s Indian arm is an institutional broker, and India in Maybank materials is research coverage only.
Maybank’s current Singapore pages are less clean than that table:
- The Global Stocks Trading page says clients can access more than 28 online and physical stock exchanges.
- The Maybank Trade page explicitly names Singapore Exchange, Bursa Malaysia, Hong Kong Stock Exchange, Shanghai-Hong Kong Stock Connect, Stock Exchange of Thailand, NYSE, NYSE Arca and Nasdaq.
- Maybank advertises research reports across 11 markets: Singapore, Hong Kong, Malaysia, Philippines, Thailand, Indonesia, Korea, Vietnam, India, US and Taiwan.
Because the public pages mix trading access, research coverage and group-network language, a conservative count is about 12 country markets — the named research markets minus India (research-only; no foreign-retail route to India exists anywhere) plus China Stock Connect and Japan. Confirm the exact live tradeable list with Maybank Securities before opening the account for a specific ticker.
Eligibility
Maybank’s Singapore account-linkage documents show that the settlement infrastructure is tied to Maybank Singapore deposit accounts and Maybank Securities accounts. The Multi-Currency e-Pay form says if you are tax-resident somewhere other than Singapore, you should proceed to a Maybank branch for account opening.
So treat Maybank Securities as a Singapore/ASEAN bank-broker relationship. It may be workable for foreigners, but it is not a clean remote-open global broker.
Best use case
Use Maybank when you can establish the Singapore/Malaysia relationship and want ASEAN desk coverage, especially for Thailand, Malaysia, Indonesia, Philippines and Vietnam.
Skip it when you need certainty before doing paperwork. For fully online access to the easier Asian markets, Boom/Monex, Phillip, IBKR, Tiger or moomoo may be cleaner.
