Based in
Germany (Berlin) — ECB-licensed bank; serves EU/EEA residents
Who can open an account
EU/EEA residents only — permanent residence in one of its 18 markets: Germany, France, Italy, Spain, the Netherlands, Austria, Belgium, Portugal, Ireland, Finland, Greece, Luxembourg, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Slovakia, Slovenia and Poland. Onboarding is app-based with a national ID; not a route for non-EEA residents or US persons.
US persons
Not accepted — US citizens and US-taxable persons cannot open an account (Trade Republic support, 2025); Europe-only
Markets covered

~9,000 stocks and 3,000+ ETPs (plus bonds and crypto), spanning German, wider-European, North American and larger Asian names — but all orders execute on one German venue: the Lang & Schwarz Exchange (LS Exchange, Hamburg). It is instrument breadth, not exchange access: you buy a German-venue line of, say, a US or French stock, not a direct NYSE/Euronext order. No emerging or frontier markets.

Single-venue by design — every equity/ETF order routes to Lang & Schwarz in Germany (Trade Republic is standing up its own BaFin-authorised MTF through 2026 as the EU's payment-for-order-flow ban takes effect). Coverage is developed-market instruments only; the map shows where the tradeable names are listed, not exchanges you reach directly.

Client focus
EU retail — ETF savers and low-cost stock investors
Recommendation
A cheap, solid EU neo-broker for developed-market stocks/ETFs and savings plans — but single-German-venue execution and nothing in this registry's frontier/EM territory; you'll need another broker alongside for that

What it is

Trade Republic is Europe’s biggest neo-broker — a Berlin fintech with an ECB banking licence, roughly 8 million users and about €100bn in client assets. It’s in this registry for the same reason as XTB, Revolut and Trading 212: a large slice of European readers already hold an account and want to know what it actually reaches.

What it reaches

A lot of instruments, through one door. Trade Republic lists ~9,000 stocks and 3,000+ ETPs (plus bonds and crypto) — German, wider-European, North American and larger Asian names. But every equity and ETF order executes on a single German venue, the Lang & Schwarz Exchange (LS Exchange, Hamburg). So it’s instrument breadth, not exchange access: you buy a German-venue line of a US or French stock, not a direct order on NYSE or Euronext. There is nothing emerging or frontier here — no local EM exchange, no unusual market this registry exists for.

One structural note worth knowing: Trade Republic ran on a payment-for-order-flow (PFOF) model, which the EU is banning (Germany’s exemption ends 30 June 2026). It obtained BaFin authorisation in early 2026 to run its own MTF and is rebuilding execution around that — a plumbing change more than a coverage one.

Who can open an account

EU/EEA residents only. You need permanent residence in one of its 18 markets (Germany, France, Italy, Spain, the Netherlands, Austria, Belgium, Portugal, Ireland, Finland, Greece, Luxembourg, the three Baltics, Slovakia, Slovenia and — its first non-eurozone market, from 2025 — Poland). Onboarding is app-based on a national ID. It’s not available in the UK or Switzerland, not open to non-EEA residents, and US persons cannot open an account.

Use it / skip it

Use it if you’re an EU resident who wants a cheap home for developed-market stocks and ETFs — €1 a trade, free savings plans, decent interest on cash, bank-grade deposit protection. Skip it as a frontier vehicle: single-German-venue execution and developed-market instruments mean that for anything in this registry you need IBKR or a specialist alongside.

Verdict

Large, cheap, well-capitalised and good at what it does — low-cost ETF and stock investing for Europeans. But its breadth is thousands of instruments on one venue, not access to the world’s exchanges, and it stops firmly at developed markets. The one-line answer to “does my Trade Republic account reach anywhere unusual?” is no. Researched, not tested.
