I have not opened a UAE-specific broker account. Content based on IBKR’s December 9, 2025 ADX/DFM access announcement, ADX and DFM investor materials, UAE-licensed broker websites (xCube, Al Ramz, EFG Hermes UAE, others), and eToro/ETF market data.
Short answer
UAE stocks are dramatically more accessible than they were six months ago. Interactive Brokers added direct ADX and DFM access on December 9, 2025 — the same period it added Brazil’s B3 (December 11, 2025). For virtually any foreign individual, IBKR is now the default answer: no UAE visit, no separate investor-number onboarding on your end, fund in your home currency and convert to AED. If you want only top-tier large-caps with even less setup, eToro carries 30+ ADX names (added February 2025) and the iShares MSCI UAE ETF (ticker: UAE) gives diversified exposure through any Western broker.
Best practical route
Interactive Brokers — since December 9, 2025, existing or new IBKR clients get direct ADX and DFM equity access through a standard account. IBKR handles the UAE market-access infrastructure; you do not obtain an ADX Investor Number or DFM NIN yourself. Multi-currency funding with AED conversion for settlement. No UAE visit required. Confirm access is enabled in your specific account and jurisdiction before trading.
See the IBKR broker page for general onboarding details.
Broker options
UAE equities trade on three venues:
- ADX — Abu Dhabi Securities Exchange (larger by market cap; home to ADNOC group, IHC, FAB, Aldar, e&, ADCB, ADIB, TAQA)
- DFM — Dubai Financial Market (Emaar Properties, Emaar Development, Dubai Islamic Bank, DEWA, Salik, Du)
- Nasdaq Dubai — uses DFM/Dubai CSD infrastructure; smaller specialized listings
Local UAE brokers (Route 2)
The traditional route requires an investor number plus a UAE-licensed broker account. Three brokers have explicit foreign-individual onboarding:
| Broker | Foreign individual onboarding | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| xCube | Yes — passport, source-of-funds docs, proof of address; international clients accepted | ADX and DFM access; most explicitly foreign-friendly |
| Al Ramz | Yes — lists non-UAE-resident requirements; online account opening | ADX, DFM, Nasdaq Dubai |
| EFG Hermes UAE / EFG Hermes One | Yes — UAE market onboarding docs; foreign passport + second ID, bank letter, proof of address, signature verification required | DFM and ADX access |
| Mashreq Securities | Yes — SCA-licensed; digital onboarding advertised | DFM, ADX, Nasdaq Dubai; non-resident eligibility unverified |
| Emirates NBD Securities | Plausible — unverified end-to-end | The UAE’s bank-backed GCC multi-market broker: DFM, ADX, Nasdaq Dubai and Saudi (Tadawul) through one trading account, plus Oman, Qatar, Kuwait and Bahrain. Existing Emirates NBD customers trade online “from anywhere”; new clients are set up in-branch, so onboarding for a foreign non-resident with no UAE banking relationship is not confirmed |
| International Securities (IHC) | Documented non-resident language | ADX, DFM, Nasdaq Dubai plus Tabadul-linked markets: Bahrain Bourse, Muscat (MSX) and Kazakhstan’s AIX — the AIX line is unusual for a UAE broker. Account-opening FAQ lists proof of address “for non-UAE residents” and says you can apply “anytime, from anywhere”; accepted residences, and whether all Tabadul markets are open to ordinary foreign retail accounts, are not confirmed |
| ADSS | Variable | UAE stock investing across ADX and DFM via app; check non-resident acceptance |
| ADCB Securities | Limited — requires ADCB bank account | ADX, DFM, Nasdaq Dubai; ADCB account is usually the bottleneck for non-residents |
| Mubasher, FAB Securities, SICO, NBK Capital, BHM Capital | Variable | Worth checking depending on account size and jurisdiction |
| Arqaam Capital | Institutional / HNW | MENA + frontier execution out of the DIFC — for institutions, family offices and HNWIs, not a retail non-resident route |
Local route process (if not using IBKR):
- Obtain an ADX Investor Number (for ADX stocks) via ADX app, branches, or accredited broker — documents from outside UAE may need notarization/authentication
- Obtain a DFM NIN (for DFM and Nasdaq Dubai) via eServices or a trading member — signature authenticated by DFM, a licensed member, UAE bank, notary, UAE embassy, or UAE MOFA
- Open a brokerage account; provide passport, second ID, proof of address, bank letter/IBAN/SWIFT, FATCA/CRS forms, source-of-funds documents
- Fund and trade via broker app/web/phone
eToro selected ADX names (Route 3)
eToro added 30+ ADX-listed stocks in February 2025, including FAB, IHC, ADNOC Gas, ADNOC Drilling, Aldar, e&, ADCB, ADIB, and TAQA. Coverage is a curated large-cap subset — not the full exchange universe. Availability depends on your country of residence.
Warnings
Bank-affiliated brokers (ADCB Securities, Emirates NBD Securities) often require a UAE bank account as a prerequisite. Bank account opening typically requires a physical visit — which then drags the brokerage onboarding into requiring one too. Avoid this route unless you already have a UAE bank relationship.
OTC/unsponsored listings of UAE companies abroad exist but liquidity is generally poor; not a recommended route.

Tax, documentation & residency friction
No UAE capital gains tax or dividend withholding tax for foreign investors under current rules. UAE has no income tax on individuals. No UAE-specific tax ID required for a foreign non-resident accessing ADX/DFM via IBKR. Local broker route requires FATCA/CRS self-certification and source-of-funds documentation — standard for the region.
The UAE does not require a residency permit to invest. A visit is only forced by the bank-affiliated broker path (see Warnings).
Offshore-listed alternatives
- iShares MSCI UAE ETF (ticker: UAE) — US-listed, broad UAE equity exposure across ADX and DFM names; buyable through any Western broker with US market access
Verdict
UAE has joined Brazil as the most-improved accessibility story in this directory’s 2025–2026 coverage. Before December 2025, UAE required direct local broker onboarding (workable, but with notarization friction) or limited eToro coverage. After December 9, 2025, IBKR provides clean direct ADX and DFM access for any IBKR-eligible foreign individual.
The UAE equity market is one of the most developed in MENA. ADX has seen significant capital flow from ADNOC group IPOs and IHC’s spinoff structure creating multiple new large-cap listings. DFM anchors on Emaar group, banking (DIB, ENBD), and utilities (DEWA, Salik). Both exchanges have meaningful depth relative to most frontier-adjacent markets. For EM/FM portfolio builders, the case for UAE exposure improved both fundamentally and operationally during 2025 — IPO activity expanded the investable universe at the same moment access friction dropped to near-zero via IBKR.
